    Hello again

No big blog relaunch, no bells and whistles for now. I’m dusting off this blog (my last post was in 2015!) and moving in to this domain, RegSilva.com (all my blog entries used to be on wedgienet.net, which will now be a portfolio-only site). My primary aim is to get back into blogging. This blog is currently bare bones– I will be adding bits and pieces of functionality as I see fit and when the need arises. For now, just words 🙂 Stay tuned to my updates by: 1) Signing up for my email list here. In return, I’ll give you my sketchbook for free. 2) Liking my Facebook page,…

Hue Can Do It! Coloring book launch

Coloring books for adults are all the rage these days. Coloring is supposedly meditative and relaxing, but I’ve never gotten into the whole adult coloring book craze. I assume it’s because I already color as it’s part of my work as an illustrator, so it wouldn’t make sense for me to color outside of work for leisure. I can see how others would gravitate to coloring as a way to pass time and release stress, though. Riding on the adult coloring book wave, Summit Media and Studio Dialogo extended an invitation to me to be part of a local coloring book publication, along with 40 other Filipino artists. I was…

    Surtex 2014 and new work

It’s Surtex season for a lot of artists, illustrators, and surface designers all over! Surtex (SURface and TEXtile) is an annual trade show held in New York every May, and this year it happens this Sunday, May 18. It’s a B2B (business to business) trade show attracting wholesellers, manufacturers, and buyers to buy and license original art to put on products– journals, gift wrap, greeting cards, home decor, party plates, tabletop accessories, and other gift ware. My agents at Bright Art Licensing will be bringing my work to the show: (This Surtex flyer was posted on one of my favorite design blogs, Print and Pattern)

Now represented by the Bright Group!

Just a quick announcement. Two things. First: my previous agency and I parted ways earlier this year, in February. I thank them for the two years I spent with them. Second: I’m thrilled to announce that I am now represented by UK-based Bright Agency, under the Bright Group! I first sent in an application to Bright in early 2012, even if I knew my work wasn’t ready yet. Naturally, they turned me down, and I signed with another agency, also in the UK. But when that contract was over, I thought I’d try with Bright again since my work and style has grown in the last 2 years. Fortunately, Bright…

    Pusspins stickers on InstaSize

I was approached earlier this year by the guys at Munkee Apps to design a sticker pack for InstaSize, an app that lets you fit your photos on Instagram without cropping (among other things). I’ve never heard of InstaSize up until that point, but apparently it’s a very popular app across the iOS and Android platforms and I do notice my Instagram friends using it. InstaSize not only lets you fit photos; it can collage, add labels, filters, and backgrounds to your images as well. I was using 4 or 5 other apps to do these things prior to learning about InstaSize, so it was a relief to ditch the…

    2013 Yearender giveaway results!

Hello! If you’re following me over on my social media channels, you’re probably aware that I extended the deadline for the giveaway another two days. I failed to anticipate that I’d be away traveling on the original date of the contest draw. My Hong Kong travel journal which I will finish 2457527 years from now.   The extended contest deadline gave people more chances of putting in more contest entries via tweeting/sharing/reposting the giveaway images though. Thank you to everyone who participated in the giveaways! It’s my first time running a giveaway of this scale, and there were over 1,400 contest entries on the Rafflecopter widget, over 100 entries on…

A look back on 2013 and a giveaway!

And just like that, 2013 has come to an end. In 2012, I remember looking forward to 2013 and all the good things this year will bring. And I’m grateful for all that has happened this year! 2013 was when I really, REALLY saw my illustration style emerge ever so clearly, starting with the April illustration for my monthly calendars: I worked on some of my most favorite projects so far: I didn’t blog about these but I had some work licensed for greeting cards (mostly) via my agent: I finally felt ready to send out promotional postcards and emails to clients I wanted to work with… …and have had…

Art for Muni x Moonleaf’s annual planner – sneak peek and planner launch!

You might remember I collaborated with Muni PH a few months ago for their #CutTheCrap anti-cigarette butt litter campaign. Now I’ve collaborated with Muni again to produce artwork for Moonleaf Tea Shop‘s annual planner 😀 I’m one of several Filipino artists who contributed artwork for the planner, which will be launched on November 16th at Moonleaf Maginhawa (that’s in the faraway land of Quezon City… says this Southerner). Don’t worry, my final art isn’t this ugly. This is just my initial sketch.   Everyone’s invited to the planner launch, aptly called “Not Another Coffee Shop Planner (we’re a tea shop!): THE LAUNCH.” Hahahahaha. Moonleaf posted a sneak peek of my…
