Paris Girls

Some recent work!

I sometimes steer clear of labelling myself as a children’s illustrator (preferring to just use “illustrator”) in my various social networking/online portfolio accounts, as I don’t want to limit myself to doing nothing but children’s illustrations. I get a lot of work aimed towards illustrations for the 0-5 year old age group, but I know my work can also appeal to an older demographic, like pre-teens, teens, and young adults.

Case in point, this illustration I made recently for Puzzle Michele Wilson, a French company that’s known mostly for making jigsaw puzzles. They also make toys, postcards, magnets, pendants, and accessories.

The brief was to show a girl doing something and have the Eiffel tower in the background. The target audience for these illustrations are women 15-30 years of age.

I presented three rough sketches to the client to show ideas and poses for the girls. This sketch of a girl sipping coffee at a cafe got rejected, probably because it’s too Parisian cliché.

In the end, the client went with these two.

One of the rare times I’ve had to draw a dog!

Wow. A selfie. Very relevant for today’s generation.

I’m generally against obnoxious, self-serving, pa-cute selfies but I’ll admit, if I were standing in front of the Eiffel tower, I’d take a selfie, too.

I just updated my website’s layout! Check out the main page. The previous theme was loading too slow and I needed a layout that would show all my work in one glance. I hope you like it, because I love it 😛
